3 Steps To Using Massage Therapy to Improve Your Eyesight



News flash, people—news flash: there is actually a connection between massage therapy and vision.

Wait, what? Yes, that’s right. The same way we give other parts of our body attention and lovin’ (I mean in a purely medical way—so stop snickering), there are certain exercises and routines that we can do to maintain healthy eyesight. We are constantly looking for ways to reduce the overall stress in our lives. Funnily enough, our eyes are the parts of our body that tend to take on an incredible amount of stress and strain throughout the day. If you’re a student or full-time employee, there’s a good chance that you spend the majority of your day staring at a computer screen. And when you’re not doing that, you’re straining your eyes trying to decipher texts on the small screen of your smartphone. So, what are the steps you need to follow to use massage therapy to improve your eyes? 

Step 1: Know Your Acupressure Points
Acupressure means using the power in our hands and fingers to apply pressure on healing points in our bodies. This is helpful for relieving tension, and every part of your body will have a key healing point.



Some acupressure points for healthy eyes include surrounding the eye sockets, the “third eye” in between your eyebrows, the inner edges of your eyes, and even the tips of your big toe. It is important to know these particular points so you know what parts of your body need attention, and which healing points are conducive to improving your eyes.

Step 2: Know Your Exercises
Now that you know your acupressure points, you need to know what to do with them. There are a number of different exercises you can do, depending on which acupressure point you are working with.
For example, if you are working with the point surrounding your eye sockets, you will want to massage the area in a circular motion for a period of time. Make sure to do this gently so as not to inflict pain or injury, as the area around your eyes is very sensitive. Also, remember that it is advisable to have clipped fingernails when conducting the massages, to make sure they are easy and painless.

3. Make a Routine and Stick With It


These exercises are futile unless you stick with them daily. If you want to see improvement, the massages must be conducted consistently and routinely. And so, the same way one might make a gym plan for themselves to follow every day, you will want to make a daily plan of the acupressure points you are targeting and which exercises you would like to do. It would also be helpful to set aside a designated time of day to actually do these exercises. Remember that it will only take a few minutes—so it requires no significant effort on your part. Just set aside a few minutes in each day that you want to give your eyes some treatment.

The important thing is that you stay committed and set goals for yourself. If you’re specifically looking to see improvement, you might want to set up some sort of daily journal to record any changes or notable things that happen with regard to your eyesight. It would also be a good idea to talk to your optometrist about safe and accurate ways to test the development of your eyes. Who knew that massage for the eyes was a thing? Maybe soon we’ll eye treatments in spas; either way, if you’re looking for a break from your desk or phone, try kicking back and giving those acupressure healing points some good rubbing.
