Senator (Barr) Aisha Jummai Alhassan; Minister of Women affairs and Social Development |
As continuation of our strategic advocacy efforts, the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), on September 1, paid a strategic advocacy visit to the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Distinguished Senator (Barr) Aisha Jummai Alhassan.
The event, which took place at the conference hall of the Ministry, saw the Damian Echendu-led NOA delegation hold a very interactive session with the minister, intimating her of prospective avenues of collaboration between the two parties.
In recognition of her exceptional commitment to pro-eye health issues, as exemplified by the development of Braille Press Centers across the country and the Nigerian Farm Craft Center for the blind in Lagos, the NOA joined a select group of organizations who have honored "Mama Taraba" by investing her as the "Eye Care Ambassador in Nigeria".
The minister, who was visibly elated at the visit, promised to explore every viable avenue for partnership with the NOA in bringing succor to the venerable population in Nigeria, especially women and children. She expressed dismay over the number of women and children affected by visual impairment globally, including Nigeria.
